Danilo Sousa Cavalcante, acusado de assassinar Válter Júnior Moreira dos Reis em Figueirópolis (TO), em 2017, será ouvido pela Justiça do Tocantins nesta quinta-feira (18/4). A audiência está marcada para ocorrer a partir das 11 horas, no Fórum da Comarca de Gurupi.

Danilo Cavalcante cumpre pena de prisão perpétua nos Estados Unidos (EUA), por outro crime, e participará da audiência por videoconferência, por meio de um acordo de Cooperação Internacional realizado entre o Poder Judiciário do Tocantins e a Justiça norte-americana.

Para realização da sessão, que ocorrerá de forma híbrida (presencialmente com a oitiva do acusado de forma virtual), foram tomadas todas as medidas necessárias, inclusive a contratação de um intérprete/tradutor em língua estrangeira (Inglês-Americano), requisitado pela justiça dos EUA.

Devem ser ouvidas seis testemunhas de acusação. A defesa não indicou nenhuma testemunha no processo.

A audiência será presidida pelo juiz Jossaner Nery Nogueira Luna, titular da Vara Especializada no Combate à Violência contra a Mulher e Crimes Dolosos contra a Vida de Gurupi, e contará com a participação do promotor de justiça Rafael Pinto Alany (acusação) e da defensora pública Cristiane Japiassu, que representa o acusado.

Entenda o caso

Danilo de Sousa Cavalcante, segundo denúncia, assassinou Válter Júnior Moreira dos Reis no dia 5 de novembro de 2017, por volta de 0h10min, em uma lanchonete localizada na Praça São João Batista, centro de Figueirópolis. Ainda conforme a denúncia, o acusado, “de forma consciente e voluntária, agindo com vontade e determinação de matar, por motivo torpe e mediante recurso que dificultou a defesa da vítima”, efetuou seis disparos de arma de fogo em direção à vítima, tirando-lhe a vida.

Danilo fugiu do local, após cometer o crime, que teria sido motivado por uma suposta dívida que a vítima tinha com ele, referente ao conserto de um veículo.

Após a ocorrência, o acusado fugiu para os Estados Unidos. Em abril de 2021, ele matou a facadas a ex-namorada, Débora Evangelista Brandão, 34 anos, na frente dos filhos, na cidade de Phoenixville. Por esse crime, Danilo foi condenado e atualmente cumpre pena de prisão perpétua na unidade prisional de Chesco, de onde fugiu no dia 31 de agosto do ano passado. A fuga do brasileiro movimentou a polícia da Pensilvânia, que só conseguiu capturá-lo 14 dias depois, em 13 de setembro.

Danilo de Sousa Cavalcante, according to the denunciation, murdered Válter Júnior Moreira dos Reis on November 5^th, 2017, at around 0:10 am, in a snack bar located in the São João Batista Square, in the center of the city of Figueirópolis. Also according to the denunciaton, the accused, “knowingly and voluntarily, acting with the will and determination to kill, for base motives and by means that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself”, fired six shots at the victim, taking his life.

Danilo fled the scene after committing the crime, which was allegedly motivated by a debt the victim owed him for the repair of a vehicle.

After the incident, the accused fled to the United States. In April of 2021, he stabbed his ex-girlfriend, Débora Evangelista Brandão, 34, to death in front of her children in the city of Phoenixville. For this crime, Danilo was convicted and he is currently serving a life sentence in the Chesco prison unit, from where he escaped on August 31^st of last year. The escape of the Brazilian triggered the Pennsylvania police, who only managed to capture him 14 days later, on September 13^th.
